Ruslana Myzenko is a Ukrainian flutist internationally active as an orchestral musician and educator. Her professional career spans Ukraine and several major European musical centres, with orchestral experience encompassing leading ensembles in Germany, Spain, Italy and France. Alongside her orchestral career, she is an experienced flute and piccolo teacher. Her orchestral engagements include the Mannheimer Philharmoniker, Klassische Philharmonie Bonn, Tbilisi Opera and Ballet State Theatre, Vigo430 Orchestra, Prime Orchestra, and the Youth Academic Symphony Orchestra “Slobozhansky”.
She began her professional orchestral career with “Slobozhansky” at the age of 20 and has since developed an international career through orchestral projects and concert engagements across Europe. Her experience encompasses both symphonic and operatic repertoire, working with international conductors and musicians in a wide range of professional settings. A significant part of Ruslana’s professional career has been shaped by her international education and artistic training.
Born in Druzhkivka, Donetsk region, Ukraine, she received her first professional musical education at the B. Lyatoshynsky Music College in Kharkiv, in the flute class of Gennady Kravchenko. She subsequently continued her studies at the I. P. Kotlyarevsky Kharkiv National University of Arts, in the flute class of Arkady Voynov where she completed both her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees. Her artistic development was further enriched through her studies in Spain at the Conservatorio Superior de Música de Vigo, in the flute class of Manuel Morales.
Тhrough the Erasmus+ programme, Ruslana studied in Vigo at both Bachelor’s and Master’s level. Ruslana’s international artistic training has included masterclasses with distinguished figures of the contemporary flute world, including Kresten McCall, Vicens Prats, Adriana Ferreira, Elena Cecconi, Riccardo Ghiani, Albert Mora, and Anton Kushnir, among others.
These encounters with leading representatives of major European orchestras and internationally recognised flute schools have contributed to the development of her orchestral musicianship, musical interpretation and individual artistic approach. In 2024, Ruslana was selected as an active participant in the renowned Flautissimo Flute Festival in Rome, one of the major international events dedicated to the flute. As part of the festival, she worked with Riccardo Ghiani and attended open masterclasses with distinguished artists including Emmanuel Pahud, Denis Bouriakov, Mario Caroli, Silvia Careddu, and Paolo Taballione. The festival provided her with the opportunity to work within an international professional environment alongside leading performers, teachers and emerging flutists from around the world. Her international academies and artistic programmes also include the Michel Plasson Summer Academy for Young Musicians in France, where she participated in an intensive programme coached by Vicens Prats - Principal Flute of the Orchestre de Paris.
Alongside her performing career, Ruslana is active as a flute and piccolo teacher. She has professional experience within the Ukrainian music-school system, having taught flute at Music School #14 in Kharkiv, where she worked with young musicians, developing both their instrumental technique and musicality. Her teaching is informed by her experience as an active orchestral performer and by the international flute schools and pedagogical approaches to which she has been exposed throughout her career.
She had a postgraduate internship in Vigo, Spain at a children’s music school, where she took part in the "Son Das Flores" educational program for children. Working as a flute teacher under the guidance of Sandra Fernández, she gained valuable experience in music education and developed new pedagogical and professional skills. This period in Vigo marked an important stage in her transition from the Ukrainian conservatory tradition to the broader European professional music scene, while also allowing her to establish lasting connections within the Spanish musical and educational environment.
Ruslana has also received recognition in national and international competitions, including the First Prize at “Kharkiv Assembles” in Kharkiv, Ukraine the Second Prize at “Syrmy Bukovyny” in Chernivtsi, Ukraine and the Second Prize at the X Concurso de Música de Cámara CSMV 2024 in Vigo, Spain.
